Empowering Your business.
Something you'll thank me for.

The financial side of running a business can quietly take over your week. Receipts pile up, reconciliations slip, and by the time anyone looks closely the numbers are months old and hard to trust.

I take that off your plate. Every client gets the same thing: clean, current books in QuickBooks Online, handled by someone with 26 years of hands-on accounting behind them, and a real person to call when you have a question.

why us

Where small business books go wrong

Almost every set of books I take over has at least two of these in it. None of them are hard to fix. They're just easy to let slide when you're busy running the business.

01

The deposit never matches the sale

Card batches settle a day or two late, minus processing fees. Booked as revenue when it lands, your sales are overstated and your fees quietly disappear.

02

Personal and business money mixed

One card used for both, and suddenly every deduction is a judgment call. Untangled properly, it's usually money back in your pocket.

03

Reconciliations quietly skipped

A month gets missed, then another. The balance drifts from reality and nobody notices until a lender or the IRS asks a question.

04

A chart of accounts nobody designed

Categories added one at a time as things came up. The reports technically balance but tell you nothing you can act on.

05

Contractors treated like employees

Miscategorized pay and missed 1099s are one of the most expensive small business bookkeeping mistakes, and one of the easiest to prevent.

06

Numbers that arrive too late

Financials you see in April can only explain last year. Seen monthly, the same numbers let you actually do something about it.

Who I work with

Small businesses of most kinds, with a particular focus on trades and contractors, home services companies, and professional service firms, plus retail shops, salons and studios, and e-commerce sellers. If you're juggling job costing, subcontractor 1099s, and invoices that get paid whenever they get paid, that's familiar ground.

Sheila Hurst, owner of Hurst Bookkeeping Solutions LLC
about

Meet Sheila Hurst

26 years in accounting. A genuine enthusiasm for the part of your business you'd rather not think about.

I have spent 26 years working in accounting: accounts receivable and accounts payable, payroll, bookkeeping, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting. Hurst Bookkeeping Solutions is the newer part of the story: the business is young, but the experience behind it isn't. Every client gets all 26 years of it.

I have found a passion for bookkeeping and love helping business owners handle the day-to-day tasks, ensuring your records are accurate and up to date while freeing up your time to focus on running your business. Catch-up and cleanup work is where I especially like to start. There's nothing more satisfying than handing back a set of books that finally makes sense.

I work exclusively in QuickBooks Online, which keeps things simple for you, your CPA, and your lender. You keep running the business. I'll keep the books tight enough that you can trust what they're telling you.

questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the onboarding process work?

We start with a free discovery call to understand your business and what you need. From there I'll get access to your accounts, do an initial review, and have you set up within a week.

What accounting software do you use?

QuickBooks Online, exclusively. It's the standard your CPA and your lender already expect, and working in a single platform is a big part of why I'm fast. If you're not on it yet, I'll get you set up as part of onboarding.

What kinds of businesses do you work with?

Small businesses of most kinds, with a particular focus on trades and contractors, home services companies, and professional service firms, along with retail, salons and studios, and e-commerce. Job costing, subcontractor 1099s, and slow-paying customers are all familiar territory.

Do you handle payroll?

Yes. Payroll processing, quarterly filings, and contractor 1099s. Payroll has been part of my day-to-day work for most of my 26 years in accounting.

How far behind can my books be?

There's no such thing as too far behind. Whether it's three months or three years, I've seen it. Catch-up and cleanup is a specialty of mine, not a reason to turn you away.

Do you file my taxes?

I don't file returns. I keep your books clean enough that your CPA has everything they need without a scramble, and I'll work directly with them so tax season is a non-event.

Do I have to be local to work with you?

No. Everything runs through QuickBooks Online, so I work with clients wherever they are. Calls, questions, and monthly reporting all happen remotely.

What does it cost?

It depends on your transaction volume, how many accounts you run, and how much cleanup you're starting with. Book a free call and you'll get a flat monthly number before you commit to anything.
